Essential Functions: 

Performing scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and unscheduled repairs, air & hydraulic brake repairs, tire repairs, warranty procedures & repairs.

In order to meet the requirements of the position, applicant should have a good background in diagnostics to include: electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic. Most diagnostics are not performed using computer assisted diagnostic tools.

Perform the sequence of operations to remove, disassemble, clean, check, repair, replace, fabricate, install and adjust components on automotive, fleet, ground equipment & machinery.

Planning and execution of complex maintenance assignments requiring knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and/or electronic systems. In addition, skills in carpentry, painting and/or welding may be required.

Work is performed on a variety of ground support equipment platforms, such as jet engine starters, power supply units, lift platform box trucks, and air cycle air conditioners.

Uses complex troubleshooting, testing and repair equipment such as but not limited to, load banks, impedance bridges, multi-meters and flow meter panels.  


• Minimum 3 years of proven repair experience on medium to heavy-duty vehicles.

• Must have strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to read and understand repair manuals and instructions, especially in an urgent and/or emergency situation.

• Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.

• Must be able to read codes and instructions on the computer.

• Valid driver’s license and good driving background.

• Ability to pass a 10 year background check and drug test.

• Minimum high school diploma or its equivalent.

• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

• Ability to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, holidays.

• Possess at minimum a set of hand tools including a toolbox and multi-function electrical meter.

• Able to lift 70 pounds. 

Reports To: Supervisor or Manager 

Working Conditions: Depending on the task, you may be required to work indoors in a garage or outside on shop grounds or elsewhere on the field.Be prepared to work around jet fumes and other vehicle emissions.

Work with cleaning solvents, paint thinners and other hazardous products in the course of a normal workday. Working Hours: Schedule to be determined; must be willing to work weekends, holidays and additional shifts as assigned.

Newcastle Shipyards will be expanding soon they currently have two facilities located on the North-Eastern coast of Florida. Newcastle Palm Coast, located on the Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, is capable of constructing vessels to 200+ feet and has a 1,000 ton marine railway. Newcastle expanded production capability by adding a second and larger facility in 2010 to accommodate customer’s needs.  Newcastle Palatka has 1,000 feet of frontage on the beautiful Saint Johns River. They are located at the Putnam County Barge Port 50 miles south of Jacksonville, 30 miles inland from the Atlantic Coast which affords added protection from storms. With an 80 foot tall construction building that is 325 feet in length, this facility allows for the construction of projects of more than 250 feet.

Assist with carpentry, repairs and fabrication of projects consisting of concrete, wood, metal, asphalt, dock curbing and dock fender system. Operates JAXPORT equipment and assist with repair work on office buildings, including remodeling, striping, sanding, priming and painting. High School graduate or equivalent. One to three years in general maintenance with one year in construction and custodial services desired. Must have mechanical aptitude. Must be able to adjust to constant changes in work environment. Must be able to obtain a “Class B” Florida Commercial driver’s license within three months of date of employment. License must be maintained during employment. May be required to deliver and/or pickup supplies, parts and equipment.
